Sonic transforms the racing genre this November

Written by Jason Leavey on July 12th, 2012. Posted in Gaming

This fall, Sega is releasing a second entry in Sonic’s racing series, with Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. The game may seem like a typical racing sequel, however this time vehicles can transform into hovercrafts or jet-planes — Diddy Kong Racing, anyone?

Take a look at the new Comic Con trailer above. The game will release November 20 for Xbox 360, PS3, and Nintendo 3DS.

Club Nintendo 2012 platinum and gold rewards announced

Written by Jason Leavey on July 6th, 2012. Posted in Gaming

A leaked screenshot posted on the Club Nintendo site last night seemingly outed the rewards for this year’s platinum status and gold status Club Nintendo members.

For gold status members, this year’s prize is a set of Mario-themed playing cards. Platinum members will receive a special poster pack, including artwork from The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, Kid Icarus Uprising, and Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon. If platinum members aren’t happy with the selection, they’ll be able to redeem the gold status reward, or download from a selection of Virtual Console or eShop titles.

Honestly, this year’s prizes are pretty solid. While they aren’t mind-blowingly awesome, but what’s nice is that if you don’t like one prize, you have the option to redeem another. And free products just for brand loyalty are always appreciated! You have until the end of the month to redeem your rewards.

I’m blown away by the genius of these 3D chalk art creations. Getting the dimensions and angles right must be a chore.

Above is a time-lapse video of Super Mario being created artist Chris Carlson, using the 3D chalk drawing method. Check out the video above.

Nintendo’s 3DS XL is huge, and awesome

Written by Jason Leavey on June 27th, 2012. Posted in Gaming

It appears the first hands-on impressions of Nintendo’s upcoming 3DS hardware revision have made their way onto the Internet. Press at an event in France were able to get some playtime with the 3DS XL, and had nothing but glowing remarks to share.

With a more comfortable feel, larger screens, better 3D viewing angle, and improved battery life, there are plenty of reasons to upgrade to one of these guys when they launch August 19 in the States. And apparently, pre-orders have already started at GameStop locations. Will you be picking one up?

Guys With Games – Marble Madness

Written by Jason Leavey on June 26th, 2012. Posted in Bit Features, Gaming

Our third entry in the GWG series features one of my favorite NES titles.

Marble Madness featured incredibly difficult level design, where players had to navigate their marble throughout a downward maze of sorts to the finish line.

I’m still blown away that no next-gen sequel has been developed, but I’m still optimistic. After you’re done drooling, I suggest you dust off your old MM NES cart for old time’s sake.

Those with an affinity for anthropomorphic turtles will be excited to see this new trailer from Nickelodeon’s upcoming Ninja Turtles reboot cartoon. The much-anticipated long-in-development GC series will kick off this fall. I personally love the new look of this turtles, and can’t wait to see them kick some major shell.

Check out the debut trailer above.

Guys With Games – Muscles and NES cartridges

Written by Jason Leavey on June 9th, 2012. Posted in Bit Features, Gaming

I decided to start a new segment here on Daft Bit called “Guys With Games.” Similar to the popular site Guys with iPhones, this segment will feature safe-for-work images of guys suggestively holding games. To start off the segment, I present you with a jock and a NES cart.

Some may be real, some may be photoshopped, but all GWG posts will be enticing… or just weird.

Enjoy.
