I am Daft Bit

Written by Jason Leavey on July 30th, 2012. Posted in Bit Features, Features, Gadgets, Gaming, Geekery

Over two years ago, I, Jason Leavey — started DaftBit.com, a blog dedicated to all things gaming, gadgets, and geekery. I had the same ambitious goals as every other tech-obsessed lost soul floating through their mid-twenties; aspirations of revolutionizing the Internet and online journalism by inventing a wheel that was invented years prior. I wanted to develop an immensely popular site which would provide a constant flow of news about the biggest stories and features relating to geek culture, whether that be software reviews, announcements of new technology products, or geekery in the form of the latest Zelda-inspired Etsy creation. In some ways, I succeeded.

Love. Pushmo.

Dear 3DS Owners,

Download Pushmo. Really. I know it seems weird hearing someone tell you to download something on ANY Nintendo console, and especially strange on the baby powder fresh 3DS, but I’m serious.

After you are done watching teams of Christmas ornaments swing into an empty square, tear through that wrapping paper, and enjoy the gem contained within.

The game has you pushing, pulling, and sliding block based shapes of a larger image through different planes in order to save a hopelessly trapped youngster. It’s super fun, and if you are bold enough (and also just plain cool enough), I whipped up a stage using the level editor available through that QR code.

Now let me be real with you, that level may look cute with all those shades of pink, but it does not eff around. Not one bit.

Sincerely, DaftBit

DaftBit on Tumblr!

Written by Jason Leavey on August 4th, 2011. Posted in Gaming, General

Hey dudes and dudettes.

We’ve started a new Tumblr version of Daft Bit. Basically, it’ll have everything you see here, as well as a lot more in the geek culture department — some cool Internet finds and reblogs that may not make it on this site. It’s more of just a snapshot of gaming and geek culture posts, as full versions of those posts will all be linked right back here on Daft Bit.

Creative and convenient. I love it!

Now on Daft Bit – Console category breakdowns!

Written by Jason Leavey on June 4th, 2011. Posted in Gaming, General

Great news, folks! Now, for your convenience, navigating Daft Bit is easier than ever. As always, if you want your gaming news, gadget news, or geek culture news, you can simply sort the news content by the category listed up on the top features bar. Now, we’re letting fanboys find exactly what they want!

By hovering over the “Gaming” category, all news has now been broken down into “Nintendo,” “Sony,” and “Microsoft” categories. Whether you want the latest on Project Cafe, or you just want some quick news on the relaunch of the PlayStation Network, you can search with ease.

Pretty great, right? Also new is the new site “Features” tab. Our podcast, “Talk About Games” as well as our new “GameDay” segment are listed below the Features heading. “GameDay” has Daft Staff discussing in back-and-forth style industry topics. In our first installment, we talk about the future of the console hardware market, and theorize if Nintendo will stay on top, or leave the hardware biz altogether. Feel free to read it, comment, and of course argue.
