Well this Wii U vibrator will surely help boost sales

Written by Jason Leavey on March 18th, 2013. Posted in Gadgets, Gaming

Nintendo’s Wii U is struggling with sales. On the other hand, sex sells. Peripheral developer Power A saw this as a great opportunity and developed this vibrator attachment for Wii U. Surely this thing will convince those sitting on the fence to pick up the new console, and this handy attachment.

Okay, actually I’m lying. Believe it or not, this peripheral is a stylus. I don’t know where Power A got their design inspiration from, but the tech specs say nothing about inserting this into your vagina.

If you’re looking to pick one up, you can grab it at your nearest Best Buy, linked here.

Your 3DS XL fits in that spare Wii U GamePad cradle!

One of the coolest parts of buying a Nintendo 3DS was getting that awesome hassle-free charging dock to keep your battery charged without plugging anything in. One of the worst parts of upgrading to the super-sized 3DS XL was losing that dock. (They do sell one separately, but I’m cheap people!)

I dock all of my electronics. Aside from the charging benefits and grab-and-go easy access, I just think they look so much cooler efficiently propped.

Just for fun, I placed my Nintendo 3DS XL in the extra GamePad controller cradle dock that comes with the Deluxe Wii U bundle, only to find that it fits perfectly. How beautiful? Now my two Nintendo handheld devices can mirror eachother on my nightstand, ready for action. While I don’t have that same easy charge option, it’s certainly not a bad looking solution in the meantime.

What can I say? I’m a genius.

Nintendo Force set to become your new favorite Nintendo magazine

Written by Jason Leavey on December 29th, 2012. Posted in Gaming

I can’t tell you how sad I was to find out that Nintendo Power would officially shut down at the end of the year. I grew up on Nintendo Power. I lived and breathed Nintendo Power. I even had a Nintendo Power book bag in preschool, and a hardcover Nintendo Power comic book compilation that I cherished. Thinking about a world without a dedicated Nintendo publication was a reality I wasn’t ready to face. Thankfully, the elite in Nintendo gaming journalists have joined forces to form a plan B.

Nintendo Force is an all-new gaming magazine (both in print and digital), set to pick up right where our dear Nintendo Power left off. The magazine will focus on all things Nintendo, from Wii U, to Virtual Console, to 3DS, to the previous generations of retro goodness, and everything in between. There will be fan mail and fan art. Features and reviews. Interviews and exclusives. Seemingly, Force will continue to offer everything our dear Nintendo Power brought forth during its 24-year run.

Christmas Gift – Yoshi art from The Daily Robot

Written by Jason Leavey on December 25th, 2012. Posted in Crafts, Gaming

Momma Daft Bit just won Christmas, all thanks to this ridiculous present — a three-pack of Yoshi splatter art. The gorgeous eye candy is the work of “The Daily Robot,” a crafty artist who has created quite a few gaming-centric pieces using a similar artistic approach. Previously, I purchased a Mega Man splatter art t-shirt.

These three pieces are now proudly hung on my bedroom wall, and fully complete my gaming paradise. Thanks, Mom!

Wii U: One Week Later – The good, the bad, and the WTF?

Written by Jason Leavey on November 24th, 2012. Posted in Gadgets, Gaming

Nintendo’s newest home console launched less than a week ago in North America, and gamers are going bananas for the Big N’s first HD offering. Stores and online retailers are sold out, and the buzz is growing. After spending several days immersed in all the console has to offer, I wanted to give some impressions to those who haven’t yet purchased the Wii U, or others across the pond that have a few days left before their upcoming launches. Here’s some key touch-points:

Hey, listen! It’s my DIY Link costume

Written by Jason Leavey on October 31st, 2012. Posted in Crafts, Geekery

Halloween is by far my favorite holiday. The goblins. The ghouls. The Tootsie Rolls. The opportunity to dress in cosplay. It’s incredibly fun.

My favorite costume, as an adult at least, is this Link outfit you see above. It’s fairly simple compared to some of the more detailed Zelda-inspired costumes I’ve seen. The tunic is just green fabric sewn together with a small slit near the collar-bone.  The hat is the same fabric, stuffed with a small amount of tissue paper so it would keep its body while remaining flexible.

The more detailed aspects were the shield, bow and arrows, boomerang, and sword. Again opting out of spending a fortune on detailed weaponry, I simply cut and painted foam core. It was definitely the cheapest option, though they’re all a little rough around the edges. Here’s a picture of my interpretation of Link’s array of weaponry below.

Wii now cheap as shit, bundled with two games

Written by Jason Leavey on October 15th, 2012. Posted in Gaming

Just one month before Nintendo releases a brand new home console, the company has decided to drop the price of their current generation hardware. Wii will now sell for $129, bundled with both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

The price drop is incredibly enticing for anyone who, over the course of six years, just wasn’t sure about picking up the most successful video game platform of all time. Certainly worth it now, wouldn’t you say?

The new bundle will be available October 28.

Here’s what 1-million coins gets you in New Super Mario Bros. 2

Written by Jason Leavey on October 1st, 2012. Posted in Gaming

Nintendo promised a special surprise after collecting 1-million coins throughout New Super Mario Bros. 2. Instead, players are rewarded with a new home screen wallpaper.

Sure, a wallpaper featuring a shiny golden statue of our mustached plumber protagonist upon a mountain of coins is a great accomplishment to show off to friends. But that’s it? Not even a special new level, or unlockable character? So disappointing. Hell, beating Mario Kart 64 also rewarded players with a new home screen wallpaper, but that hardly got promoted as a feature.

Why include the coin counter? Why get me to spend countless hours testing the limits of my carpal-tunnel? Let’s be honest, the game felt like it lacked originality in all aspects except the coin emphasis, and finding out that it was for nothing really infuriates me. I think it’s about time Nintendo really rethinks their in-game reward system. This bullshit just isn’t cutting it.

Wii U Deluxe set is mine! (…on November 18)

Written by Jason Leavey on September 16th, 2012. Posted in Gaming

To end the week, Nintendo announced Wii U launch specifics, including pricing information and a solid release date for each region. Retailers across the globe immediately opened up preorders for the two new bundles. To my surprise, the deluxe set, sold out within about 24 hours at GameStop, and within about 48-hours at Best Buy and Target.

My attempts to pick one up at GameStop fell flat, but thankfully I snagged a black deluxe model from Best Buy. I’m incredible excited for the new console, and I’m sure within the next two months, as more and more details arrive, that excitement will only grow.

Anyone else have any preorder scares, or did you all plan ahead?
